Create Indigenous art with our virtual Creative Workshops, presented by Know History. Led by expert instructors, there is a workshop for every level of skill and interest.

New workshop videos are uploaded every Wednesday and Friday and you can view them at your conveniencec for the remainder of the month. Don’t forget to get your creative workshop kits at the Marketplace, which will be delivered to your door with everything you need to participate in the workshop.
SEALSKIN KEYCHAIN - CARISSA METCALFE-COE

FISHSCALE MÉTIS ART
FRIDAY, JUNE 3rd | 6PM Jaime Morse (formerly Koebel) is Nehiyaw/Michif (Cree/Métis) from Lac La Biche, AB and has lived in Ottawa since 2000. She is an Indigenous arts activator, activating stories and teachings of social, political and cultural matters through Indigenous arts and culture. As an artist, one of her practice includes carrying on traditions of fish scale art. Using the fishing net is a metaphor for repairing the relationship between father/daughter and grandchildren in the face of Day Schools, murder, 60’s Scoop, incarceration, addiction and new family members discovered, Jaime, her dad Randy Mercier and her children find ways to connect over fish scale artwork. $25 + Shipping
MAKING YOUR OWN MOCCASINS - STORYBOOT SCHOOL
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8th | 6PM This workshop is designed to teach classic hand sewing techniques in beading and leatherwork. Participants will learn the art of puckered toe moccasin-making from skilled Indigenous artisan and Storyboot School instructor Trip Charbs. Trip will guide you through the steps of creating moccasins by hand including pattern-making, beadwork, design, construction and care for your finished product. Students will be provided all the necessary tools (with the exception of a few everyday household supplies) to complete their project and will be guided through the process from start to finish. This workshop is designed for youth 12+ and adults. $95 + Shipping
BIRCH BARK BITING - SIMON BRASCOUPÉ
FRIDAY, JUNE 10th | 6PM Birch bark biting is a traditional Cree art. The art form is done by separating thin pieces of birch bark and folding the bark many times. Then the artist places it between their teeth and bites down on the bark. The bark is rotated several times to create the artwork. $10 + Shipping
PAINTED PADDLES - CLAIRE BRASCOUPÉ
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15th | 6PM Paint a 14-inch pine wooden paddle with Claire Brascoupé. Claire demonstrates techniques to paint your paddle inspired by Algonquin medicinal plants and the plant life that surrounds us. $20 + Shipping
PORCUPINE QUILL - MELISSA PETER-PAUL
