Teachers and Parents: Need some TLC in June? Let SSIF handle some of the Tuesday and Thursday planning for you with educational, and entertaining activities. Education day workshops include a natural art project, author readings, an Inuit culture presentation and more! TGIT!

We had thousands of students and hundreds of teachers across Canada participate in SSIF Education Days last year.

Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival LIVE Education Days

LIVE at our NEW LOCATION
Mādahòkì Farm
4420 West Hunt Club Rd.
June 22nd - 24th, 2022

Join us for FREE performances and interactive workshops that share and celebrate the diverse Indigenous cultures of Canada. All of our programming is designed to encourage interaction and engagement with our Indigenous artists and knowledge keepers who will help bring the curriculum to life in a fun, authentic and appropriate way.

Concurrent Workshops, each 45 minutes long: 9:45 am, 10:45 am, and 12:30. Lunch time will be from 11:30 – 12:30

Pow Wow Demonstration:
Interactive demonstration of a Pow Wow with drums, dancers including world champion hoop dancer Dallas Arcand.

Inuit Throat Singing:
Enjoy traditional throat singing performance and Inuit games demonstrations

Metis Games with Hank Rowlinson:
Get Physical trying some traditional Metis games like sack races and poison circle.

Spirit Horse stories with Rhonda Snow:
Meet the Ojibwe Spirit Horses and learn their history with stories and art from Rhonda Snow.

Interactive Artist Stations:
Art and Nature with Emily Brascoupe – Create your own visual art using elements of nature. Create paper birch bark baskets – Watch demonstration of birch bark biting and create your own paper birch bark basket, applying Algonquin designs and symbols

Reconciliation Rocks and Legacy Trail:
Students/teachers can add a message of reconciliation to their own orange rock and place it along our Legacy Trail which has interpretive signage to introduce natural plants and medicines found on the farm.

There will be many vendors of arts, crafts and food to help you enjoy your time on site between workshops and performances.

Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival Virtual Education Days

June 2nd - 21st, 2022

We are excited to be able to bring our VIRTUAL Education Days back to teachers and students across Canada during the month of June, 2022. With the support of our partner BMO, we are able to bring the rich Indigenous culture to life for all students while they stay safe at home with interactive, educational and fun experiences that support the curriculum for all grades. 

For this year’s virtual Education Day series we will be providing participants with access to a password protected portal where they will be able to view pre-recorded and live videos and information packs for teachers. To gain access you will need to complete a different registration form which will be available soon.
