Volunteer at the 2020 Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival

The Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival (SSIF) draws over forty thousand people to celebrate Canada’s vibrant Indigenous heritage. Celebrate the SSIMAs, Education Day, Competition Pow Wow, and National Indigenous Peoples Day from June 18 to 21, 2020. Our event transforms Vincent Massey Park into a living hamlet of splendid and vibrant Indigenous culture, from the past and present. Volunteer for an afternoon, an evening, a day, or the weekend, and connect with our Indigenous community and with one another. Volunteers enjoy delicious FREE food and a souvenir t-shirt. We need all kinds of volunteers for our 2020 festival! Have a look below, and if you have any questions please email our Volunteer Coordinator.

Volunteer Options for You:

GREEN TEAM:
Want Mother Earth to always look her best while you are walking among the festivities? The green team keeps the focus on the fun as you divert as much waste as possible and keep the site free of debris.

FAMILY FUN ZONE:
Do you like the energy of the younger crowd? This team makes sure all the little people get a chance on the ziplines and interactive entertainment. Come out and join the team at the family fun zone.

FESTIVAL AMBASSADOR:
Stop the confusion! Help people feel welcome and head in the right direction. Join in at the welcome center and get everyone where they are going with a smile.

POW WOW VOLUNTEERS:
Love the energy and excitement of one of the region’s biggest pow wows? Here you get to register and be a runner for officials and performers. Sign up to volunteer on this team and exemplify pow wow etiquette.

PEACEKEEPERS:
Can you manage a crowd and keep everyone in line with your strong peaceful nature? Keep an eye on festival items of value and work with our professional security staff to keep the festival tone positive and well.

ALTERNATES:
Do you thrive on ever changing situations? Like to jump in at the deep end? Be an alternate and you will take on any of the volunteer jobs where you are needed most. Flexibility is key.

PARKING DIRECTORS:
Is bright yellow your colour? Can you communicate well using only your arms? Get festival attendees in and out of the festival and direct them to the pay stations so no one gets a ticket.

SETUP AND TEARDOWN:
Do feats of strength excite you? Want to help make sure the festival begins and ends smoothly? Volunteer to help set up and/or tear down directing vendors and artisans and keeping the site running smoothly.

EDUCATION DAY VOLUNTEERS:
Looking for experience working with kids? Love the challenge and energy of thousands of students and teachers looking for the best workshop? Help out at our education days and connect students with the aboriginal culture.
